Website Design & Development
our core service

Okay, lets get this out in the open straight away...

websites aren’t that complex.

No really, they aren't.

Websites are scary, sure, but people generally make the mistake of thinking that this is because they are complex, difficult to build and difficult to maintain. Of course that's partially true, else company's like this one wouldn’t exist, but it certainly doesn't tell the whole story.

Websites are also scary because they don't come with an instruction manual, they are scary because they are still very new (the web as we know it didn't even exist until the mid-nineties) and they are scary because techies have low self esteem. Seriously. Basically we don't like the idea that other people, normal people, might be able to build websites. Computers and Websites are our "thing." Sadly that means we can be a bit, well, "obtuse" at times and have a habit of making things appear more complex than they actually are.

Sorry about that.

At Dragondark we understand that for many people and organisations those first steps onto the web are the hardest to take - after all, we ourselves had to take them once. Broadly speaking there are two types of website - Static and Dynamic - and we will help you determine which is best for you.

Static Sites

Static sites are those that have "flat" content. This means that all information and content is hard coded into the pages, with little - if any - database action at all. These are the most common kind of sites on the web and will meet 90% of peoples needs. As they are more straightforward and less man-hour intensive to build, static sites often offer the best compromise between cost and quality. They are, however, harder to manage if wholesale or frequent changes need to be made.

Dynamic Sites

Dynamic sites tend to use database interaction and server-side coding (i.e. the server does some work "behind the scenes" and the user sees only the results) to do things. Generally the framework of the site will be static, but there will be areas of dynamic interaction such as forms, shopping carts, interactive tools and monitoring functionality.

Dynamic sites come in various degrees of complexity and obviously the more complex, the more difficult, the more time-intensive (and therefore the more costly) they are to build. A well-built dynamic site, however, is often more than worth the additional cost.

At Dragondark we look to help you clearly identify your needs and then determine what type of site best meets them. We aim to guide you through the whole process of planning, developing, launching and maintaining a website that both you (and your accountant!) can be pleased with.
